The house is situated in a beautiful and quiet mediaeval hamlet of 8 houses on the top of a small mountain (175 m) on the river the Orb. The house is kept in the authentic Languedoc style. You are surrounded with a beautiful nature.
The house has a large garden (150 m2) and from both the upper-terrace and the garden-terrace you have a free view on the Valley of the Orb, the vineyards, the hills, mountains and woods. The house is 4 km away from the charming little town Lamalou-les-Bains, 35 km from Béziers and 45 km from the Mediterranean. If you want to go for a walk without meeting anyone, there is no need of getting into your car, because you enter the woods and mountains immediately from the house. These paths also lead to the Caroux ( 10 km) and the Gorges d’’Héric (12 km). But of course you can always take the car… Not only is there an overwhelming nature, but also a rich cultural history.

You are near the Cathar Country (ca. 1100 – 1200 AD) and from the house you can make many trips to Cathar sights (also see the photogallery on the page “immediate surroundings”.) This same land has deep roots in the Roman period. The fundaments of the hamlet go back till that period!

Additional information

If you love peace and tranquillity this is a beautiful place for you to be. The open countryside allows all sorts of activities as mentioned above, but also painting, writing, and reading. The scenery is unspoilt and overwhelming.
In the area of “the Orb Valley”, in which you are located, there are numerous small and charming villages, all worth visiting. Many villages have a weekly market (list is in
the house). Not only the countryside is breathtaking, but there is also a rich cultural history, rooting in the Roman period (Oppidum), Catholisism (churches, abbeys, monasteries) and the time of the Cathars (Beziers, Carcassonne, Albi, Montsegur, Peyrepertuse, etc.) You are not far from Spain (appr. 150 km) and Barcelona is appr. 320 km. Ten minutes walk from the house there is a gentle small waterfall and a basin with unspoilt water from the mountains. The house is appr. 25 minutes from Lac du Salagou and 40 minutes from Saut de Vesoles near St Pons de Thomieres.

Travel details

• Car: autoroute A9 either to Beziers or via A75 to Millau. (route descriptions available on request by mail)
• Train: from Paris take the TGV to Beziers, from there to Bedarieux. Beziers – Bedarieux is appr. 35 km. Bedarieux - La Borie is appr. 12 km. Taxi possibility.
• Air: Montpellier or Carcassonne. Low-price daily Ryanair-flights from Stanstead to Montpellier (www.ryanair.com) or BA-flights from Gatwick to Montpellier (www.britishairways.com).
